Account looks like a family or child's account, but it’s not

Message sent to Microsoft forumA elderly friend tried to login to her account and was asked to give parental permission. It looked like a childs account, but it’s not. My friend is a female in her 70s and has no idea why her account is a family account.? The account does not show her the apps she using or anything else, it just wants parental permission. All she wants to do is login and get some images from OneDrive. She has not logged in for a while as her Windows machine needed to be fixed. How can we get some help with this?

    :)

  2. Child account in family safety is no visible

    Helloo

Im Juliet and Im happy to help you Account looks like a family or child's account, but it’s not :)

I would suggest you try to Verify the child account's status.

Double-check if the child account is still active and has not been removed or deleted. If the child account has been deleted or disabled, it will not appear in the parent account's settings.

To verify the status of a child account and ensure it is still active, follow these steps:

    1. Log in to the parent account: Use the credentials of the parent account associated with the child account and log in to the platform or service.

    2. Navigate to the account settings: Once logged in, locate the account settings or profile page within the platform or service. This is usually accessible through a dropdown menu or a dedicated settings icon.

    3. Look for family or child account management: In the account settings, search for options related to family or child account management. This could be labeled as "Family Safety," "Parental Controls," "Family Settings," or something similar, depending on the platform.

    4. Access child account settings: Within the family or child account management section, you should see a list of linked child accounts associated with the parent account. If the child account is visible, it indicates that it is active.

    5. Check for account deletion or disabling: If you do not see the child account listed, it might have been deleted or disabled. Look for any information or notifications indicating that the child account has been removed or disabled.

    6. Verify with platform support: If you are uncertain about the status of the child account, or if you cannot find any information regarding its deletion or disabling, contact the platform's customer support. They will be able to assist you in confirming the status of the child account and provide further guidance.

I hope this helps Account looks like a family or child's account, but it’s not :) Let me know what happens Account looks like a family or child's account, but it’s not :)

Unable to remove child account from Family

Thanks Elise. Your suggestion worked. I contacted live chat option via "Get Help" app.

Just for others who read this in future I had performed the following steps to solve the issue.

    1. Log into Microsoft Family Safety
    2. Select 3 dots on the top right of child's card & select "Remove consent for this child's account"
    3. It then warns, "You are about to remove parental consent for this child. They will no longer have permissions to access certain Microsoft sites and services."
    4. Click on "Remove consent" button
    5. Go back to Microsoft Family Safety home page. Wait for few seconds for settings to reflect. The child account will disappear from family home page.

    Hi taryn,

Its a pleasure to help you with this,

To remove the desired child account follow the step-by-step below:

First, go to a browser and go to the Microsoft Family website.

Sign in with your Microsoft account that is associated with Family.

After logging into the account, you will see a list of members who are in the Family, locate the desired child account, click on the account name, this will open the settings.
