Windows 10: Acer monitor with built-in speakers showing up as playback device, but not working

I have a PC with a 1660 Super, AMD Ryzen 5 3600, and it's connect to an Acer KA series monitor with built-in speakers. They've been working fine for about a year but today I tried to use the built-in speakers and they wouldn't work. My headphones still work, but no sound comes out from the monitor speakers.I have already made sure that the monitor itself is not muted or anything.

To help us identify the cause of the issue and then find the proper resolution for it, please tell us if you made any significant hardware or software changes on your laptop prior to this issue. Also, can you provide us the steps you have already taken to
try to resolve the issue? In the meantime, follow these steps on how you can enable your playback devices:

• Right-click on the speaker icon on the taskbar and select Sounds.
• Under the Playback tab, right-click on the default speakers and select
  Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices. Your headphones or speakers should now appear here.
• Right-click the headphones or speakers and select Enable.

Monitor speakers disappearing

I can understand that must make you feel upset and we will work toward fixing this situation for you.

Just to clarify, the issue started after disabling the speaker, is that correct?

If so, I suggest you to try the steps below to re-enable the speaker and check again.

1. Right click on the sound icon in the taskbar and select "playback devices".

2. In the playback devices window, right click on an empty space and select "show disabled devices".

3. This will show the hidden/disabled speaker.

4. Right click on it and re-enable it.

How do I Restore My Built-In Speakers as Playback Device?


I wanted to temporarily disable my built-in speakers.

I went to Control Panel.
Clicked on "Sound" which displayed my menu of playback devices.
Clicked on my built-in speakers.
Clicked on "Properties."
Clicked on "Disable."

However this removed my speakers entirely from the menu and I can no longer use them!
How do I restore them?

I went to my Device Manager and the drivers are still loaded.
