Windows 10: ACER Nitro 5 Speakers Popping, Suspect due to Realtek Driver

Greetings all.


I purchased a new ACER Nitro 5 Nitro AN515-55 that came with Realtek Audio and received it yesterday. Like any good, moderately tech-savvy laptop owner I spent the day updating drivers, BIOS, anti-virus, etc...


Today I attempted to listen to Pandora while downloading files from elsewhere. The speaker quality was immediately and consistently awful - distortion, popping, even causing lag and delays with the OS. I spent some time researching and attempting solutions and am leaning towards the issue being the Realtek Audio Driver version 6.0.8890.1, the most current available online.


A summary of what I have done so far:


1. Attempted to isolate the problem - it happens when I am doing anything in addition to playing music, and only happens through the Realtek system headphones and built-in laptop speakers. If I use bluetooth to our Bose speakers it does not distort and it does not cause lag or delays.

2. I have uninstalled the device and reinstalled it.
3. I have rolled back drivers to the one previous version available.
4. I have adjusted numerous settings, taking advice from many forums like this one, including adjusting the format sample rate and bit depth, reducing enhancements, trying other options with Spatial Sound Format.
5. I tried switching the minimum processor state from 0% to 100%.


Before coming to the conclusion that it was the Realtek driver I attempted changing the NVIDIA High Definition Audio driver to a generic one. I would like to try something similar with the Realtek driver, but have not found a "generic" alternative driver for that device.


I am open to working from directions and/or chat and appreciate any help you all can offer.


Specifically, I was motivated to try posting here after reading some of the help provided in a similar problem by Mr. Greg Carmak. Realtek Audio Console on Acer Nitro 5

Hello all. I recently noticed that my Acer Nitro 5 was no longer detecting any headset devices and I am unable to get any input via the mic (and have also borrowed other headsets from the original one I had, all of which have the single 3.5mm jack which
works with the Acer Nitro 5's single audio input). I am also only getting this when I pull up the Realtek Audio Console:



What steps should I take to resolve this issue?

 

No Headphone Output on Acer Nitro 5

Hi, I recently purchased the Acer Nitro 5 as I was due to for an upgrade. It doesn't seem to be much of an upgrade as the headphone jack doesn't seem to be functioning. I plug in headphones that work perfectly fine in my old laptop and get nothing out,
they are not detected. I've tried opening the Realtek Audio Console but this is all that comes up. I've searched around and every thread related to this problem directs me to the audio console. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi TN. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 year Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator here to help you.

Go into BIOS/UEFI Setup to see if you can set the onboard chip to default. You can power on while pressing the Acer F1 or ESC key. Older models may use F2. This may be listed on the BIOS splash screen.

If you don't get a display for the BIOS even, then I'd reinstall the Nvidia card and properly disable it in BIOS setup before removing it this time.
