Windows 10: Acer Nitro AN515-42: Disappearing dedicated graphics card when updated via Windows Update...

Hello!


My notebook has integrated AMD Radeon Vega 8 Graphics with AMD Ryzen 5 2500U and dedicated Radeon RX 560x graphics card. Until the problem occurred both cards were visible and active in the device manager.


After Windows 10 update, which concerned UEFI BIOS update to InsydeH20 rev. 5.0, dedicated graphics card Radeon RX 560X disappeared from the device manager. It is visible, but only after checking the option to show inactive devices - the message says: device is off, connect the device to the power supply. Then the card is not detected and cannot be selected to support applications such as games. The RX 560x is only visible as active when the notebook goes to sleep mode and wakes up. It is then possible to select RX560x to support applications.


I've updated the chipset drivers but no result. In UEFI BIOS settings Advanced tab I have only three options:

1. AMD-SVM
2. AMD-IOMMU
   
3. SATA Configuration.

The first two of the options listed above concern VM support. I don't see options to change the use of graphics cards.

How can I activate both cards so that they are available from system startup?

Hi TN. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 year Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator here to help you.

Go into BIOS/UEFI Setup to see if you can set the onboard chip to default. You can power on while pressing the Acer F1 or ESC key. Older models may use F2. This may be listed on the BIOS splash screen.

If you don't get a display for the BIOS even, then I'd reinstall the Nvidia card and properly disable it in BIOS setup before removing it this time.

Acer Nitro 5 AN515-51 laptop display bit depth (6 bit?)

So I'm trying to find out about the bit depth of this laptop's display.

Since this is an IPS display and not a TN one, I was expecting 8 bit depth. But when I checked the settings I got this:





But in the meantime, when I'm searching for the display modes, I get this:





Can anyone tell me what's up with this display? Is it 6 bit indeed?

 

Acer Nitro 5 windows 10 video tdr failure atikmpag.sys

I can turn on my computer just fine i can use my browser or talk to people on discord fine, but if i try to play league of legends or any game on steam within a few minutes in game I get the blue screen that says windows 10 video tdr failure atikmpag.sys.
My drivers are updated, I've tried resting windows, uninstalling and reinstalling drives. I have no idea what to do. Its an Acer Nitro 5 model AN515-42
