Windows 10: Activate digital license on a new pc with no access to the old pc windows 10 pro

I have recently upgraded my pc and I used the same drive to install windows on the new pc, so I have no access to the old windows installlation. On my old PC I activated windows using a digitial license and so I tried activating windows on the new pc using the digital license.When going to the activation settings and clicking troubleshooting -> I changed hardware on this device recently my old pc that I can't access anymore shows up but my new pc doesn't. When I looked at https://account.microsoft.com/devices/ I see both my old and my new pc.I have read that a digital license can on

Need help transferring a Windows 10 Pro digital license from old PC to a new PC (Activation problem)

3 hours later I found the solution.

1. 1st problem solved: Yes I actually have to Clean-Install Windows using USB on my new PC. I still get an error "Windows is not activated", but it stops going into the "can't connect to organization" part.

2. 2nd problem solved: Going back to my Old PC. Resetting the PC before the transfer actually cut off my linked Microsoft Account before transferring. The digital license became stuck to the device until I reconnect to Microsoft Account on my Old PC, making it turn from "Windows is activated with a digital license" to "Windows is activated with a digital license connected to Microsoft account". This means the old PC still has to be connected to a Microsoft Account in order for the digital license to be transferred.

3. Last step: Going back to my New PC. I clean-installed without entering a Product Key, so the system has some options in the Settings > Activation. In this mode of install, Windows is not activated, but you can open a dialog and select "I just replaced my Hardware recently", when I picked that, it shows the new PC's name and Activate button near it. This transfers the license from the old PC, activating Windows in the new PC.

4. New PC: Windows is activated with a digital license connected to Microsoft account.

I made some dumb mistakes, but I hope it gives some insight.

Transfer digital license from old PC to New one.

You would have to first ensure the Digital License is linked to your Microsoft Account. See instructions how to do that. You can then use the Troubleshooter on the new computer after installing Windows 10 to restore the license.

Please note, if your license was upgraded from a OEM preinstalled Windows 7 or Windows 7 license, it is not transferable.
