Windows 10: Activate new licence with image of old system

Hi,I've been using my old acer notebook with windows 10 for a long time but a few days ago I purchased a new notebook. In order to keep all my files I created a clonezilla image and restored it on the new notebook. All of this went well, but now I realised that I also copied my old windows licence to the new notebook. Is there a way to keep all my files, get rid of the old windows and activate the new licence, which is stored on my new notebook? Acer didn't give me a product key, I think it's already in the hardware. BestJens

System Image Problem

I'm getting a head start in case you get on early.

Can you post camera pics to your thread from your phone?

There will be steps later that require attention to detail and I'd feel better if I could see what's on your screen. I had to try the steps more than once when I tested the process and I'd like to avoid that on your machine.

Here's what I'd like to do for the Macrium Rescue steps later on in the process
I'll post the the step, you'll post an picture of the Macrium screen,
I'll echo same screen back if I see something that needs changing or I'll just say Go Ahead

When I confirm that the Macrium screen, you'll make any changes I've highlighted and THEN execute the step

Here's where you begin today's session, we'll get as far as we get and then pick up when you get back home.

Step 1: Safeguard the System Image by moving it to a new folder

1. Connect the Seagate exp drive
   
   
2. File Explorer: Navigate to the Seagate drive
   
   
3. Create a new Folder named 1_sysImage
   
   
4. Move WindowsImageBackup to 1_sysImage

Step 2: List the VHDs in the System Image

1. File Explorer: Navigate to 1_sysImage\WindowsImageBackup\machineName\Backup date-time
   
   
2. Press the Type column to sort by Type
   
   
3. Post a screen shot

 

Cannot activate windows with my digital licence after installing it on a new machine.

Due to a hardware issue I was forced to buy a new computer and install Windows fresh (to the new machine's C Drive).

I have a digital licence attached to my Microsoft account and yet I cannot activate windows on this new machine. Windows cannot find a product key, and troubleshooting leads me nowhere. The old machine is no longer listed on my devices list, so I cannot see why my licence won't apply.

Is there anyone available who could help with this?

 

Activation of Windows 10 on new PC

I've recently built a new computer and am trying to activate Windows 10 on it. I have a digital licence that's tied to my Microsoft account, but when I try to go through the activation steps via the "My hardware recently changed" option, it doesn't show
my new computer on the list, though it does show the old one I'm trying to transfer the licence from. I have signed in on both with the same Microsoft account, and both are listed as devices connected to my account. I've tried signing out of my Microsoft account
and back in on both of them, to no effect. It was a free upgrade from Windows 7, but I made sure to activate it to tie it to my account.
