Windows 10: Activate Windows 10 (again)

I bought thisW8 laptop in January 2013. I got the free W10 upgrade in July 2015. It recently crashed and I have had to reinstall all software. W10 is now asking me for a product key. I checked the email and it is not there.

I went on MS help and it stated something along the lines of a license. Either was I don't have that either or would not know where to look. Can you help me get one?

I won't buy a key, stupid.

I'll revert back to windows 7 then.

When I still was on windows 7, about a year ago I added 4GB extra ram which is a total of 8GB now,
is that causing the problem?
