Windows 10: Activate Windows 10

I had a Dell computer for many years and it went through many upgrades. The last upgrade was the free Windows 10 update. Recently, the hard disk crashed and I have no way of accessing any information from it. I created a recovery disk boot disk and downloaded Windows 10. The problem is that I can't Activate Windows. Any help will be appreciated.

I won't buy a key, stupid.

I'll revert back to windows 7 then.

When I still was on windows 7, about a year ago I added 4GB extra ram which is a total of 8GB now,
is that causing the problem?
