Windows 10: Activating windows 10 on a refurbished win 10 laptop

I bought a refurbished windows 10 laptop. Windows has not been activated. There is a refurbished windows 10 product key on the base of the PC but the sticker is damaged me trying to remove something stuck over it, I was told by support I could scratch that something off, but my attempts to do so damaged the product key. I am now missing the first set of characters.


I needed the laptop urgently as I am working from home on a zero hours contract. My desktop suddenly stopped working with the company vpn. I need to work. The supplier has told me I can return the laptop and it will come back to me in two weeks time. That means loss of two weeks wages and due to cancelling shifts, a loss of reliability that will affect future work.


So, I am fine for a month but is there any way that I can get this laptop authenticate? Softkey displays a product key that does not match the sticker, I assume because it is displaying the original, and I need the refurb key.


Buying a new product key would cost less than losing two weeks wages, but would that work? Or is there something in the laptop that means it will only accept that refurb product key?

How long did you wait for activation?
When I re-installed with a fresh install... it took a few hours to sync and activate.
However, it did, finally, activate.

Hi!

I signed up in the windows insider program and got windows 10 free - the windows 10 insider preview updated to windows 10 pro.
Today i got another SSD and did a raid 0 on my system forcing me to do a clean install of windows but now it wont activate anymore.
Signing in with my microsoft account that was linked to the insider program didnt help.
Maybe i got this problem since i quit the insider program for several days and signed up again after i found out that my win 10 wont activate anymore.
Any ideas how to fix it?

I bought Windows 7 Pro OEM key from G2Play.net for 12€ to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro - worked like a charm but be advised if you buy a OEM key you can not download the Win 7 iso from microsoft and have to get it elsewhere.
