Windows 10: activating windows defender without uninstalling norton

Hi, I've had an issue with Norton Security Suite supplied by Comcast ever since upgrading to Windows 10. It's a perpetual popup of the Norton Download Manager whether Norton is installed or not. End up going back to Norton support and though their techs have taken control of the computer 5 times and assure me the problem is solved, it isn't. Have been given 4 different case numbers for the same problem. I'd like to get rid of Norton once and for all and use Windows Defender and Firewall, but seem to be caught in a catch 22?

I have same problem. Windows Update no longer recognizes Window Defender is not active, when Norton 360 or another antivirus program is being used. And you can't activate Windows Defender without uninstalling Norton 360. Its a Windows Update bug and
needs to be fixed. Running the Windows Update troubleshooter doesn't fix it nor does re-registering all the services.

 

How to uninstall Windows Defender

I finally got the problem resolved. The friendly people from Microsoft Answer Desk fixed it by uninstalling Norton temporarily which allowed Windows Defenders control buttons to become active. All of the Defenders control buttons were then clicked to the
"Off" position. They then immediately reinstalled Norton. Windows Defenders is now disabled and Windows Update is no longer sending updates for Windows defenders

Use the Norton Removal Tool. Also, check your registry and delete Norton/Symantec keys and open This PC to delete any folders. I would also recommend a System Restore to a point before you installed Norton.
