Windows 10: Activation and Updates

Can someone explain how Updates work on Windows 10? Is this function now totally automatic and taking place in the background? Also will updates activate Windows Defender? I have tried activating it manually through the Settings menu, but the toggle switch icons are bleached out. They cannot be accessed.

If your previous operating system (Windows 7 Premium) was genuine, once you upgrade to Windows 10, it will be activated automatically. Once Windows 10 is activated, you will not need a product key if you wish to re-install Windows 10 in the future. You can
always re-install Windows 10 end number of times and still retain the genuinity unless you make any hardware changes or change the motherboard.

In response to your second query, are the updates being installed or stuck? If it is taking longer than expected, you can place your computer in clean boot state
(Applies to Windows 10)and install the updates. The updates are genuine windows update for better functionality of your operating system so you need not be concerned about it and wait for the updates to be installed successfully.

Windows 10 Installation, activation and updates query.

Hi,

I was happily using Windows 7 home premium, I got an offer to upgrade and I choose that.

2 weeks before I got approval and I downloaded windows 10 but in a weeks time my system becomes not usable, like auto recovery messages came.

I searched google and youtube and follows the advise after bit of research and at last I had to format my system.

It was a loss of data.

Now I have installed windows 10 but I do not have the product key.

My question is : do I need to have product key for windows 10 free to download in future?

Another : following updates are showing waiting for install

It it a concern?

In Win10 Home edition, installation of updates is a fully automated although a little personalisation is allowed. You can do things such as stopping drivers from updating automatically, hiding certain updates (via separate downloadable MS utility), stop updates across networks and setting up downloads for a metered connection.

 

I have Comodo Premium Anti-Virus and Firewall installed. Would this be sufficient to disable Windows Defender? If so, what steps should I take to permit Windows Defender to bypass Comodo Anti-Virus and Firewall and become able to be activated?

I just deactivated Comodo Anti-Virus and Firewall, but to no avail. I still could not activate Windows Defender. There has to be another cause. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I would be very interested.

 

You cannot have two AVs. It can cause terrible problems. It is quite right that MS has defender switch itself off as it is protecting users from having systems that cannot work properly. If you want to have defender running you will need to uninstall Comodo AV.

 

Thank you. I will uninstall Comodo Anti-Virus and Firewall then. Which of them does a better job of defending, would you say? Comodo or Windows Defender?

 

I do have an opinion on that, but it is not valid as I use neither. *Smile You need someone who has used both to comment.
