Windows 10: Activation code not working

I updated from Windows 7 to 10. I downloaded and installed from Microsofts website. I had a certified copy of Windows 7 pro on my computer. Microsoft was allowing your old activation code to upgrade as long as it was certified because of 7 was ending in January. It installed Windows 10 Pro and never asked to put in the activation code. After 12 hours of using Windows 10 a pop up screen appeared saying my activation code had not been entered. I saved my old code and try to enter it, but it wouldn't recognize any of the numbers and have of the letters. It was only showing like 6 or 7 letters and the code is like 20 characters long. It actually said in the box "do not recognize this value". I don't think it installed right because my display looks like old on the screen. Doesn't recognize my monitor from my laptop. in the dxdiag tool it has it listed as "Generic PnP display" with no adapters installed. I'm not using a plug n play monitor it's just a laptop.

Possibly there can be the problem with Microsoft activation Server, so your Windows 10 is not activated. In this scenario, you need to wait and verify if it is the issue from Microsoft’s side. But if you are getting error code 0x803f7001, you can also try these steps:

1. Open Settings app. Then go to Update and security > Activation screen > Change product.
2. Type your Windows edition product key and click Next.
3. You’ll get We couldn’t activate Windows error message.
4. Retry steps 1-3 then type your 25-characters unique product key.
5. Wait for the process to complete, Windows 10 is activated.
