Windows 10: Activation Error after attempting drive partition

i wonder if you could give me some help here.So a friend of mine recently attempted to extend the Windows partition of his drive. The drive was only allocated 80GB for Windows and software, which he has now used and so he needs more space. After attempting to expand the C drive by using the free space from the D drive, there's now a problem. Windows is now spitting out the error code 0xC004F012 which is an activation error. His Windows is fully activated and is updated to 2H22. What seems to be the issue here? Windows 10 Home Edition 2H22

W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

- press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
- diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
- list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
- select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
- clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
- create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
- exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
- click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

 

Multiple Boot Managers and/or active partitions error

I don't know what you did to fix previously but with the commands above should rebuild the the partition unless the partition itself is corrupted preventing you to run those commands.
Let's try another way:

1. Download the Macrium Rescue disk: MacRescue.iso - Google Drive
2. Using a USB stick to create a bootable USB with: Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way
3. Boot up the PC with UEFI Mode and follow the screen shots to rebuild the EFI System partition.
   NOTE: The title must show: ..... Win PE 10 [UEFI] for step 3 to work since your Windows installed with GPT disk.

IMPORTANT: make sure you use the correct disk in step 2, in your case is disk 1

 

Move Win7 64 image from a partition NTFS to a new drive

EDIT: After reading your first post again, is there any reason that you would now need GPT? Are you just trying to move the windows install to a new disk or is there a new motherboard involved?

If you are already booting to an NTFS partition, then it makes me wonder if after copying to the new drive, the partition isn't getting marked as Active.

Following the same steps I posted above for startup repair, you can get to a command prompt and use diskpart to see if this is the case.
