Windows 10: Activation of windows 11 on a new build from old digital licence

How do i activate Windows 11 on a new build PC from an old digital licence? It was a full retail licence that i linked to my microsoft account. The old PC is long since dead. I tried running the activation troubleshooter and the old PC name showed up, so I selected it but it told me "We can’t activate your copy of Windows because the digital licence for this device has already been used to reactivate Windows."The old build was windows 10.

Transferring a retail Windows 11 Pro licence to a new PC

I have an old PC running Windows 11 Pro, "activated with a digital licence linked to your Microsoft account". This is a retail licence purchased from the Microsoft Store.



This old PC is now suffering from various hardware problems, so I have bought a new one. This has been running Windows 11 Home under an OEM licence, also "activated with a digital licence linked to your Microsoft account".

My question is, how do I deactivate the Windows 11 Pro licence on the old PC and activate it on the new PC? I know this is an obvious question, and after some searching I found one answer I thought addressed my particular issue.

I followed the steps set out in Redirecting but now I'm stuck. The troubleshooter on the new PC says "we found a Windows Home digital licence for this device running Windows 11 Pro. To activate using this digital licence, you need to install Windows 11 Home". At the final step, "See other devices linked to your Microsoft account" only shows the old PC, with the Windows 11 Pro licence. I am signed on to the same Microsoft account on both PCs and can see them both in "Devices".

I'm not worried about the licensing on the old PC, as it's going to be recycled anyway.

 

Activating Windows 11 on New PC With Windows 10 Digital Licence from Old PC

My current PC has a Windows 10 Home Digital Licence linked to my microsoft account and am planning to unlink it from my current pc and transfer it to my new pc that I will be building soon. As such I was wondering if I were to install Windows 11 Home on my new pc instead of Windows 10 Home would I be able to activate it using my Windows 10 Home licence/product key linked to my account?

I bought Windows 10 (I believe) licence years ago from an online store, when building my old computer. I believe I originally got product key with it, but have troubles locating it. When upgrading to Windows 11, it got transformed into Digital Licence (which is connected to my Microsoft account) - thus, every time until now, when I was reinstalling Windows I never needed to manually activate it, as it always got activated by itself due to my Microsoft account.
