    Activation troubleshooting

In order to best provide assistance, we request users to run either of the below to try and identify the issue you may be having.

    A. *Arrow Activation Diagnostic Tool (Checks MS Office activation with basic Windows activation data only)

    B. *Arrow LicensingDiag.ps1 (No MS Office data but extended Windows activation data collection (i.e Digital Licencing)

    ****************************************************************************************************

    A. Choose windows validation from the menu bar and it will run the diagnostics test. You can then save a report as a text file containing information relating to current licensing.

Note: If an error is detected, you can see the description by clicking/tapping on the error link.

    Remember the following:
    1. Specify from whom the Windows 10 media and what type of key was purchased.
    2. Has any piracy software been installed and removed – including Watermark removers?
    3. Do NOT post the full Product Key.
    4. Please provide a short description of how and when the issue you are experiencing evolved.
    5. Sometimes the report can be very long, if there are lots of eventlog errors - so please post between tags (# in the toolbar) or attach the report instead.

NOTE: The data collected with this tool does NOT contain any information that can personally identify you and can be fully reviewed, by you, before being posted, but be aware that it reports the full OEM key - thus take precaution to mask that before posting the report.

    ****************************************************************************************************
    B. Extended script: (Masks keys and HardwareID in standard execution - see below about unmasking those)

    1. To display keys and decoded bios and HardwareID use the -Show parameter

    usage: [path]\LicensingDiag.ps1 -Show

or if running from the containing folder:
    eg: C:\Users\Craig\Desktop> .\LicensingDiag.ps1 -Show

    :)

Could be that changing the motherboard has made your Windows 10 invalid. You may not get it back. The free upgrade was offered for the life of the device and changing the motherboard is a new device. You had digital entitlement for the old device.

Having said that I have read others have contacted phone support and after supplying their previous key have been granted activation. Do you use a MS account to login.? What was your previous OS. Was it retail or OEM.

Well, I messed up. I had a pre-installed version of Win10 Home, and tried upgrading with a pirated Win10 Pro Product Key. That didn't work so well, for obvious reasons, and now I just want it back to normally-functioning Win10 Home. But.... I can't find the orignal product key.

I do have the original packaging, but as Windows was pre-installed, there is no CD with the original product key shown. So I'm kinda screwed huh, unless I shell out the $ to get a new copy of Windows 10, right?

If this is a copy of windows 10 that came with a computer from one of the major OEM companies, (HP, Dell Etc), it should have been sold with a recovery option. Either a recovery partition on the system disk, (and a procedure to re-image the system to how it was at first Use), or a disk based recovery system. If for some reason you no longer have this you will need to contact the manufacturer and ask for a replacement copy of this recovery software, They may charge you a nominal sum for this.

Windows 10 re-installs no longer need a product key for activation as this information is retrieved from Microsoft's servers during re-installation

If it were I, I would just download the Windows 10 ISO file from Microsoft, make a USB flash drive or DVD from it. Export the drivers from the existing Windows 10 installation, and clean install Windows 10 which will pick up the product key for Windows 10 Home in the UEFI firmware and use that for automatic version selection and activation.

  9. How do I know that diagnostic download isn't yet another missive from hell? Particularly now that we can't trust A/V progs to save our sorry asses?

P.S. I've no idea how that S. African [?] flag got there. Not mine.

You obviously do not know me... why would a reputable site allow the app if it was bogus?

    What flag?

Why chop-off the top bit? Unlicensed? The key was used too many times on too many PC's.

  12. I didn't knowingly chop off any top part. I don't see that any part of it is missing. As for "Why would a reputable site . . . . ?" I think you can answer that for yourself.. Like, why did MSFT allow a fake pop-up to appear with their software? Point being, ordinary users like myself have no idea what or who to trust anymore. And no, I don't know you but your avatar is not exactly trust-inspiring. Did you think it was? Sorry, but its rather scary.

The pink pop-up was the reason I called for help as I mentioned, this was my third install and they wouldn't even allow two as the second time they tried to force me to buy another copy and I raised holy hell about that until they finally gave me a new key. So I knew this activation wouldn't work and I called.

Well check the report again... it's chopped and the turquoise colour is also edited.

MS did not put a pop-up in a genuine iso - only external malware could have installed that.

My avatar scary?.... would Snow-White be better?... sorry, but that's no excuse to misstrust my work.

If you purchased a genuine key (i.e genuine source) all would be well.

  14. Well, I am sorry you didn't get my point . . . . I'm tired, frustrated and sick of the monumental problems of trying to keep my computers functioning, a task at which I'm failing. This is a brand new build and it didn't last even two days, so cut me some slack. Blaming the victim doesn't go very well with me these days.

Well check the report again... it's chopped and the turquoise colour is also edited. Yes, I added the color for emphasis.

MS did not put a pop-up in a genuine iso - only external malware could have installed that. Didn't say they did, I said "allowed".

My avatar scary?.... would Snow-White be better?... sorry, but that's no excuse to misstrust my work. There was no reason to distrust the fraudulent pop-up, either but look what happened.
There is no reason to take umbrage over a legitimate question. You could have answered that you were the author, but you didn't. I didn't find out until I actually took a chance and downloaded and saw your name on it.

If you purchased a genuine key (i.e genuine source) all would be well. My (Non) genuine key came on a card in the box with the USB flash drive containing the o/s purchased at Best Buy. Was that also not legitimate?

Enough of the silly banter, does the report indicate that I've been "had" yet again?

OK, no more silly banter... yes you have been had...

IIRC we had a similar issue with a Best-Buy deal quite a while ago at Eightforuns... can't remember how/if it got resolved...

Thing is to take the PC back to them... run ADT, in the GUI it will show the full key... then show them the report as non-genuine and they should re-imburse you.
