    So I've got an old school Mac Pro with a Boot Camp partition. I recently installed virtualization software called Parallels that is capable of booting the physical Windows disk inside a VM. From a functional perspective, it works great even allowing full DirectX 11 support. But the problem I'm running into is with activation. Windows 10 Home is perfectly happy when booted from bare metal. But if I try to boot it up in a VM, activation freaks out and starts bleating. If I go back to bare metal, it's happy as a clam again. I can't be the first person to deal with this. Is there an official Microsoft solution to this dilemma? Technically I *am* running Windows on the same motherboard, CPU, etc., so there shouldn't be a license violation.

    The sources folder can be big- the OS..

    - not exactly helpful here, as it doesn't point to a local source.

    Comment below confirms it supports restore to dissimilar hardware.

    Could the iso he's got just be the Veeam Recovery Medium?

    Ross -- Thanks very much for your reply. Now that we are communicating, can you address my original question: What happens with image backups and potential bare-metal recovery of a system whose system volume has been encrypted with "device encryption?"
    I'm planning to use ShadowProtect by Storagecraft for backup and recovery, but the same question would seem to apply to the built-in Windows image-backup feature. Specifically:

    1) Is all of this transparent to the user, or is there a point when the encryption key must be provided during the bare-metal recovery process?

    2) If I've never signed in with a Microsoft account, I would not have access to any recovery key, but also the system should not have automatically encrypted. Correct? Is it then transparent across an image backup and bare-metal recovery, or are any other
    steps involved?
