Windows 10: Adaptive Brightness Always on After Version 2004 Update

The Windows 10 Version 2004 just became available for my Surface Pro 7 running Windows 10 Pro about a week ago and ever since I installed the update my brightness is misbehaving.

It's acting like I have the "Change brightness automatically when lighting changes" box checked whether it actually is checked or not.

For instance, if I'm on a page or app that has mostly white backgrounds it stays nice and bright, but if I go to something that is in dark mode, where the backgrounds are all black, and then go back to a bright page the bright mostly white page looks dark or washed out for at least 30 seconds before it starts adjusting and getting bright again. Sometimes it takes longer.

I tend to keep my brightness set at 50%, but now I have to turn it up almost all the way to compensate for the dimmed screen.

After looking online, all I found was a suggestion to roll back drives, but that option doesn't appear when I right click "IntelR IrisR Plus Graphics" under Display Adapters in the Device Manager.

Is an update coming to fix this? If not, what do I do?

I paid way too much for this device to have to live with something like this.

Screen brightness low & critical Error

Method 2: I suggest you to update the display drivers and check if the issue persists.

Steps to update the drivers for the Display Adapter.

• Press Windows key + X key when you are at desktop.
• Select Device Manager.
• Expand Display Adapter.
• Right on the Display Adapter and click on Update.

Adaptive Brightness and Windows Updates issue in Windows 10 1903

Change brightness settings

1. Go into “Control Panel” search and select “Power Options”
   
2. Click the “Change plan settings” link next to whichever plan you are currently using and then click “Change advanced power settings”.
   
3. In this new window click “Display” to open up the listings under it.
   
4. Now locate and click each of the following…”Display brightness”, “Dimmed display brightness” and “Enable adaptive brightness”.
   
5. Change each of these to the settings you wish, then click the “Apply” button and finally the “OK” button.

The problem you've experienced with the brightness settings could be caused by an outdated driver for your Display adapter or possible that the brightness settings on your computer may not be properly set.

For us to sort this out, we suggest that you follow the steps on how to

Get the best display on your monitor.

If the problem persists, then please proceed with updating the driver for the Display adapter. Follow these steps:

• Right click the Windows key
  and click Device Manager.
• Expand Display adapters.
• Right-click on the Display adapter listed and click Properties.
• Navigate to the Driver tab and click Update Driver Software.
• Select the option to automatically search for the updated driver software.
• Restart the computer after it's updated and verify.

You may also look into the computer manufacturer website and download and install the latest display and chipset drivers.
