Add a new pc to my existing microsoft account.

When I log sign-in to my microsoft account I see all my current computers. Good.. However, I have a new non-microsoft device, i.e., a new pc with Windows 11. I was hoping that the microsoft account would automatically see the new pc when I log onto the account through the new pc. It doesn''t. And when I try to add/register the new pc the account it asks for the "device" serial number. The "device" does not have a serial number. Any help to add the new pc onto my existing MS account is appreciated. "Ozzie" N.

    :)

Link a local account on a new PC to an an existing Microsoft account

    Hi,

On my current/old Win 10 PC I use a Microsoft account with a user ID that has more than five characters.

I now have a new PC and want to add my existing MS account into this PC.

On my new PC, when I created the same user ID (of more than five characters), it truncated it to the first five characters :-(

To resolve this situation, on the my new PC can I create a LOCAL user with the user ID (of more than five characters) and then use the option 'Sign in with Microsoft Account instead" to link that Local account to my existing Micrsoft account with same email address ?

I have seen other suggestions on how to resolve this e.g. Registry changes, but don't like the sound of those.

    Thanks !!

  3. Setup a new PC by accidentally create new Microsoft/Admin Account instead of using existing MS/Admin account. How can I remove the new one and add back the existing one?

    Hi Kenneth,

To be able to use your existing Microsoft account as your PC login credentials, the first thing that needs to be done is to create a new administrator account. Follow these steps to do so:

    • Open the Settings app and then click on Accounts.
    • Click on Other people and then click on Add someone else to this PC.
    • Under the Local Users and Groups (Local), right click on Users folder and then choose New User.

    • Fill up the form and then click on Create button. Make sure that you'll take note of the password that you'll set for the user account.

    • Change the account type to Administrator and then click on OK button.

Follow these steps to be able to associate your existing Microsoft account to your new PC:

    • Log out from the account you are currently using and then sign into the PC using the newly created user account.
    • Open Settings, click on Accounts and then under Your info, click on Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.
    • Input the information of your existing Microsoft account.

Follow these steps to remove a user account on your PC:

    • Open the Settings app.
    • Click on Accounts and then chose Other people.
    • Click on the user account that you wish to remove and then click on Remove button.

Change Microsoft Account Details in Administrator Account

Hi Daryl, welcome to the Ten Forums.

It's quite easy in fact, simply switch the account in question first to a local account, then switch back to a Microsoft account, this time using your wife's MS account credentials.

    Tutorials:
Notice that before doing this you need to remove the new additional MS account on the PC, the one you created with her credentials. Windows allows only one user account for each email address, if the new account exists you cannot switch the original administrator account to an MS account using the same email address.
