  1. Add a printer or scanner requests AAD authentication

If I attempt to add a printer from Settings\Printers & scanners page using the "Add a printer or scanner" button, the scan starts and detects some of my existing printers, but then pops up a Microsoft sign in page. On entering my Microsoft username and password, it produces an authentication failure message: "Sorry, but we're having trouble with signing you in. AADSTS50020: User account *** Email address is removed for privacy ***' from identity provider 'live.com' does not exist in tenant 'Microsoft Services' and cannot access the application 'dae89220-69ba-4957-a77a-47b78695e883'(Microsoft Print Native Client) in that tenant. The account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant first. Sign out and sign in again with a different Azure Active Directory user account." (where *** Email address is removed for privacy *** is my Microsoft username). Can anyone say why this may be happening or how to fix it? I have tried dism and sfc with no effect, and other PCs with the same printers installed and logged in to the same Microsoft account behave normally. All are on 1903 build 18362.449. I'm finding it hard to imagine why this would need to log in to an Azure Active Directory, or where it might expect to find credentials to do so. Existing printers are working (with the exception of a Canon Selphy for which I think there may be a problem with the driver, as it also does not work on the other PCs that do not show the authentication failure). Many thanks.

    :)

  2. Windows 10 recognizes my printer+scanner only as a printer.

    Hello,

Another method you may try is to uninstall and reinstall the printer. The following are the steps:

    Remove your printer

    • Select the Start button, then select Settings > Devices > Printers and Scanners.
    • Under Printers & scanners, find the printer, select it, and then select Remove device.

Install or add a local printer

    • Select the Start button, then select Settings > Devices > Printers and Scanners.
    • Under Printers & Scanners, see if your printer is installed.
    • If you don’t see your device, select Add a printer or scanner. Wait for it to find available printers, choose the one you want, and then select Add device.

On the other hand, we suggest also that you reach out the manufacturer of your printer/scanner for the driver availability or work around.

    Regards.

  3. Scanner

    Hi JSmith,

Your scanner should be installed first in order for your computer to recognize it. Since you're using a printer/scanner in one, you need to add or install the device as a printer and as a scanner. Make sure that the printer is properly connected to your
computer and is turned on when you try to install it. Follow these steps:

    • Click Start > Settings > Devices.
    • Under Add printers & scanners, click the + sign and select
      Add device.

Once added, try checking if you're able to scan. If your computer still doesn't detect the scanner, then we suggest that you get in touch with HP Support for further assistance.

Feel free to let us know if you need more information.

    Regards.
