How to Add AV1 Codec Support to Windows 10

AOMedia Video 1 (AV1) is an open, royalty-free video coding format designed for video transmissions over the Internet. It is being developed by the Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia), a consortium of firms from the semiconductor industry, video on demand providers, and web browser developers, founded in 2015. The AV1 bitstream specification includes a reference video codec.

Microsoft has released a beta version of the build 17763 or higher[/b] PC. When you install the AV1 video codec, any app such as Microsoft Edge, Movies & TV, and Windows Media Player can use the codec to play AV1 videos.

This extension is an early beta version of the AV1 software decoder that lets you play videos that have been encoded using the AV1 video coding standard developed by the Alliance for Open Media. Since this is an early release, you might see some performance issues when playing AV1 videos. Microsoft is continuing to improve this extension. If you allow apps to be updated automatically, you should get the latest updates and improvements when Microsoft releases them.

This tutorial will show you how to add AV1 codec support to play AV1-encoded video content in Windows 10 for your account.

    Here's How:

    1. Download and install the free AV1 Video Extension (Beta) app from the Microsoft Store.

*note If you should want to uninstall the AV1 Video Extension (Beta) app, you can do so on the App & features page in Settings.

Tip To verify and see if a video supports and is using the AV1 codec, right click or press and hold on the video, and click/tap on Stats for Nerds. If you see av01 for Codecs, then the video is using the AV1 codec. (see screenshots below)

    Please upload the file
    here
and check it's codec. After checking the codec, Look up it's name and find a trusted download for Windows 7. I suggest the

    following codec pack
, just tick your wanted codecs and Windows Media Player should be able to play it.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
