    Hey there,

I am trying to add a program to everyone in my company's taskbar and it seems like the best (only) way to do this is through the "Start Layout" group policy.

    However, I have two problems.

    1. The program (.lnk file) is not pinning at all. I've added the local location to the .xml file and it just refuses to pin. I've taken templates from Microsoft's own knowledgebase and just replace the location with my program's location. No dice.

    2. I don't want to mess with people's start menu (some users have it set up a certain way and would freak out if it were to be messed up) however, every time I enable the gpo it will delete all icons on the start menu and reapply the default icons.

Has anyone had any experience with this and could be any help? Is this even possible anymore? I know it was really easy on Windows 7... but apparently it has to be complicated now.

    Thanks,

    Joey

    :)

    Remove (open) programs from taskbar

I'd just get a program called Ultramon. It puts a second taskbar on the second monitor, so if you have something up and running on the second monitor at all times it is displayed on that taskbar. It doesn't do exactly what you want, but it does solve the problem of wasted taskbar space.

    Video Thumbnail on Taskbar

The feature is called Taskbar preview and is not supposed to remain open after you remove the cursor from the icon. So it is working proper when it closes preview once the cursor is removed from the Taskbar icon.

EDIT: I have seen Taskbar preview stick and stay open before myself even after the cursor has been removed but that not suppose to happen and I don't know for sure why it happens in the first place but I'm guessing it has to do with memory running low .....

Cannot disable Taskbar live preview in 7!

    I even did this...
    1. Click on start and type on search bar gpedit.msc and press enter
    2. Now navigate to User Configuration, Administrative Templates, and Start Menu and Taskbar in left pan of Group Policy Editor
    3. Locate “Turn off Taskbar Thumbnails” in right pan of Group policy editor and double click on it.
