Windows 10: Add Microsoft account to activation - doesnt exist in my settings

I am trying to migrate my free Windows 10 upgrade to new PC.

The tutorial here : Microsoft Account - Link to Digital License on Windows 10 PC

shows that in Settings -> Activation must be "Add a Microsoft Account" piece.

I don't have it. Any ideas? Windows version 1607

When I go to my family settings, i can see parent account that doesn't exist anymore but it still limits my using of phone. I can't accept terms of Marketplace -> can't download apps.

I tried the link you sent but they said me to go to another placeand there i had only aanswers: go to answers.Microsoft.com even I told i had asked there, unbelvievable!

But very very luckily, WP8.1 update gave me possibilities to download apps! YESS!

You don't have that option since your Windows 10 is already activated.

 

Actually, this is not quite correct I believe. The message does not mention it is connected to an MS account.

I would try changing to a local account, then it should come up with option to link to MS account.

What build of Windows 10 do you currently have installed?

The term "Digital entitlement" is usually used with older builds.

It was changed to digital licence in 1607





Having said that OP says he/she is running 1607 which does not make sense.

 

It makes perfect sense if @maxima is logged into a local account on his computer. You have to log in with a Microsoft Account in order for the digital license to link to it.

 

I was logged as ms account. I will try local tomorrow and report back

Since you are signed in with a MSA, you're license is already linked to the MSA.

It's just the older "digital entitlement" term confusing the matter. If you have build 14371 or newer of Windows 10 installed, you should see the newer "digital license" term along with "linked to your MSA".

Yeah but if using a local account and on 1607, op should see option to link account to MS account. What puzzles me is that op says they are on 1607 and using an ms account but screen says digital entitlement. Something is not stacking up here.

 

I agree with cereberus, something doesn't add up. Before 1607 there is no "Linked to your Microsoft Account" part. And it says entitlement instead of license. If it was 1607 logged in with a local account, the linked to part would be missing, but it should say license not entitlement. It must be an earlier build?

P.S. on a sunny side - although I couldn't migrate my free W10 upgrade to new PC, I could manage to get another free upgrade and installed new copy on the new PC.

Confirmed. @maxima's screenshot is from 1511 (or earlier?) that part of Settings had an extensive makeover for 1607. These two screenshots are both from the same PC with different system images restored and logged in with a local account...
