    Great news Ken.

Odd. I'm not having to delete the Wow64Node location in my 64-bit Windows 10 to get rid of them in Open/Save dialogs.

I've updated the tutorial to help though. *Smile

Hello. I just applied the "download" fix as suggested. While the REGISTRY fix did in fact remove the double-instance of the USB flash-drive, this is the behaviour I am now witnessing:

    1) When I have an explorer window already open, and insert a USB drive, a second instance of WIN EXPLORER starts and displays everything correctly as it ought to be, but now there are two WIN-EX instances open.

    2) Then, when I right-click the same USB drive and select EJECT, it dies allow me to remove the drive, however, it also completely closes out the WIN-EX window as well.

    Any thoughts on that?

Thanks for the original solution, and hopefully the answer to this issue is available as well. BTW, this is a totally fresh WIN10 install on a brand new SSD and all the current updates are already installed. Everything else seems optimal as far as other behaviours and operations. Nothing else aberrational.

    Hello BRINK.

I followed the suggestions you included. Neither one solved the issue, which again, is as follows:

I insert any flash/usb drive into a usb port. open it and do whatever.
When done, I right click and select the "eject" option.

It does let me know that I may no safely remove the device, however, it then and every time, also closes the WIN Explorer window as well, which is not the desired behaviour. I want the device to be ejected, but not necessarily close the WIN-EXPLORER window.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

Does it still close the File Explorer window if it's not open to the USB drive?

    Hello EMINENT, *Smile

    Which option are you using?

Please go ahead and post some screenshots showing this in File Explorer to see if anything may stand out.

Just to clarify that this will only affect drives that are considered removable. If you open Control Panel (icons view) -> BitLocker Drive Encryption, it will make it easier to see which drives are OS, fixed, and removable.

Hello Janot, and welcome to Ten Forums. *Smile

Did you do step 7 to apply after merging the .reg file?

Please post a screenshot showing the drive you wanted to remove in File Explorer to see what the issue may be.

    Hi
That was fastest reply ever *Smile
I've already deleted key manually, it was intact.
So, method works, reg file doesn't.
p.s: yep, I did a restart after applying it

I just tested the .reg again to verify if something may have changed, but it still works fine for me.

I can only assume that you may not have fully approved the merge?

I'm glad you got it sorted though. *Smile

Thanks for the Reg Hack Brink

Just a thought... I wonder if on some systems double clicking the .reg is actually opening them in Notepad or ??? to edit them rather than merging them, it maybe good to add to step five that you can also right click the file and choose >merge (not open).

    Hello KB, *Smile

By default, it should merge the .reg file when opened or double clicked on. If it doesn't, then the default association of .reg files need to be reset back to Registry Editor.
