How to Add or Remove Search Glyph in Search Box in Windows 10


Searching from your taskbar makes it easier for you to search the web and Windows.

Starting with Windows 10 build 14946, you can add or remove a search glyph to the left of the search box.

This tutorial will how you how to add or remove a search glyph to the left of the search box for your account in Windows 10.



Note The downloadable .bat files below will modify the DWORD value in the registry keys below.

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search\Flighting\0\ShowSearchGlyphLeftOfSearchBox

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search\Flighting\1\ShowSearchGlyphLeftOfSearchBox

Value DWORD

0 = Remove
1 = Add


EXAMPLE: Add or remove Search glyph in search box








Here's How:

1. Do step 2 (add) or step 3 (remove) below for what you would like to do.


2. To Add Search Glyph Left of Search Box
*note This is the default setting.
A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the BAT file below, and go to step 4 below.

3. To Remove Search Glyph Left of Search Box
A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the BAT file below, and go to step 4 below.

Remove_Search_glyph_left_of_Search_Box.bat

4. Save the .bat file to your desktop.

5. Unblock the .bat file.

6. Run the .bat file.

7. You will now notice your screen flicker and a command prompt quickly open and close as explorer is restarted to apply the registry changes.

8. When finished, you can delete the downloaded .bat file if you like.

  Click on show search box.
  

Now check if you are able to find search box.

Windows 10 Search box

Which instructions are you suggesting I missed? There is no search icon. Right clicking the taskbar shows no search option. The "small characters" or icons trick did nothing. The regedit thing:
Follow these steps to turn on the hidden search box:

• Open regedit
• Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search
• Inside the search key, create the new DWORD value named EnableSearchBox and set it to 1
• Restart your computer or simply Explorer Shell

Did not give me a search option that I can find.

So in at least MY version of windows 10 there is no search box I can find that will allow me to search my own computer to find possible misplaced files.

So what are the instructions?

This issue may occur due to corrupt Windows search files or settings.

I would suggest you to run search and indexing troubleshooter
and check if it helps. Please follow these steps:

a. Type troubleshooting in the search box on taskbar.

b. Click troubleshooting in the search results.

c. Click "View all" and then click "Search and Indexing".

d. Click "Next" and follow on-screen instructions.

Change search box settings windows 10

> Is there any way to change the Windows search box, to right of address bar, settings for Windows 10? It no longer spell checks and no longer does a general word nor phrase search properly. The search results are always we could not find it. If the
search box gives an extremely short list of suggestions, then when the suggestion is clicked the response is again, we could not find what you are looking for.
