Odd. This is not an app, so I don't know why you would get that error message. Especially when you have no problems merging other .reg files.

Does it work for you if you download it from here below instead?

No change. Thanks for your efforts Shawn. I can still take ownership the old fashioned way: Through the Security setting in PROPERTIES

Do you have the same issue with the .reg file from step 3?

As a test, create a new .reg file on your desktop, copy the contents from the downloaded .reg into the new one and save, then see if you are able to merge the newly created .reg.

Add Take Ownership to Context Menu in Windows 10

    Hello Shawn,
New wrinkle. It may be coincidental, but I upgraded to build 10532 overnight and now can't merge ANY .reg file. "This app can't run on your pc" on any attempt.

    Kevin,

As a test, see if using OPTION SEVEN in the tutorial below to set .reg files to open with Registry Editor (C:\Windows\regedit.exe) may help.

Sorry, I didn't respond to this earlier.
.reg files are/have been associated with regedit.

In that case, see if downloading and merging the .reg file for the listed reg option in the tutorial below using your import method may be able to help. It will restore the default associations and registry entries for .reg files. It's the same in Windows 10 for this.

How do I permanently delete specific sub-folders from my own USER folder? I have 26 sub-folders. More than half are unecessary to me.
