Windows 10: add video card to Acer Aspire AXC-704G-UW61 desktop ?

This thing has a small adapter, not a power supply, that looks like a laptop adapter. The output is 19volts at 65 watts.

According to Acer's forums, I can put a low profile video card in it. I don't think my 1 gig NVidia video card will work in it.

The desktop case has two DVI outputs. And a card slot that supports the pciex16 video cards.

I would prefer under 100 dollars.

After Windows 10 issues, I returned system to 8.1 and reinstalled Windows 10 update. Prior to this I backed up files with File History to an external drive.

I am using an ACER Aspire AXC-603 Desktop.

No error messages from File History issue.

The main issue with Windows 10 was that some apps would not start.

Method 1 and Method 2 completed and still cannot access earlier File History backups.

 

Check out this Newegg search: plenty of low-wattage, half-height PCIe cards available for under $100. I've had good luck with the 7xx Nvidia models in my wife's mini-ITX PC (e.g. EVGA GeForce GT 730 $65).

eVGA recommends a minimum 300W power supply for the 02G-P3-2732-KR. They don't list an actual power draw for the card, but other GT 730 cards draw a maximum of 65W.

I believe that a 65W PSU won't be adequate for a 730. Has anyone on the Acer forums added a discrete graphics card to this model?

 

You're probably right. If minimal power consumption is the overriding consideration, then a lower powered card is probably called for. You might need to go back additional generations in the Nvidia and AMD/Radeon product families. Here's an (older) Spiceworks post that talks about a 20W item. Not sure if it works with Win10, tho...

PS: the best half-height reasonably capable low powered "modern" card is probably a half-height version of the Nvidia 750Ti Goes for $110 at Newegg and draws 60W (still too much?)

 

You have a SFF (Small Form Factor) desktop. Great to save space on your desk. However, to add stuff to it is a bit tricky.
You will need a Low Profile video card, a few years old at least. You can find these on Ebay or Amazon rather then NewEgg which deals in newer stuff.
You may also want to invest in a low profile PSU. But now we are talking about a new/used computer for about the same price.

 

I have a GeForce 220 or 210, but I believe its a 300 watt PSU requirement card. I don't get any output from any video output when I plug it in.

It looks like I'll have to wait until after January, 2017 anyway. The IntelHD chip works fine for Everquest MMO and Campaign Cartographer 3+ just fine so I may not need a video card.
