Windows 10: Added kids to MS 10 family on new computer but can't validate

When adding kids to my family, I had to create email accounts for them in Outlook. when I click on accept invitation, it then goes to page saying they cant since they already belong to a Microsoft family. However, I don't see where this can be and there's nothing I can click in their email account to detach from the Microsoft family so that they can join mine. What am I missing? I'm doing this so that I can set up parental controls for each child based on their age.

I want to create the kids family accounts but it forces you to assign /create an email even after selecting no email . then trying to enter something that is similar to their name doesnt work either as i get errors 'part of reserved domain' even when i put total random characters.

All i want to do is add the existing local kids accounts to the family list but it doesn't let me do that without assigning them an email? Is this correct?

This new MS stuff sucks its just not that straightforward and they are trying to force you into email accounts when you dont want one.

I sent invites to my kids to join the family and went into their emails and we accepted the invites, but now the family screen says they will be added when they accept. How long does it take for it to register that they've accepted? And do they need to
sign in to the account to accept? When we click the sign in button nothing happens.
