Adding a drive to a 'simple' storage space...

I have a Simple no resiliency storage space with 2 HDD 2 x 14TB. I want to add a 3rd drive to increase pool space, but I'm a little confused about how that will work. The storage space currently has 2 columns one for each physical disk and I know that cannot be changed without creating a new storage space. If I add a 3rd disk to a storage space with 2 columns, does that mean data will be striped across any 2 of the now 3 disks? Will the new drive be used any more/less than the original drives after data has been re-balanced?Thanks for any help!

    :)

Error adding drive to Storage Spaces

I'm running Windows 10 Pro and I've been trying to add a drive to my simple storage space. I first tried a 6TB WD drive but kept getting an error. After researching online here it seemed just that drive wasn't compatible. So I found an old 80GB Hitachi
drive and tried it but I'm getting the same error.

I can see it in Device Manager, I can see it in the Storage Spaces app. I can see it in the Disk Management tool. I can see it in Powershell get-disk as well. I can use the drive normally, I ran long hardware tests on it with no errors, the drive works
    as normal.

But as soon as I go to add it to the storage pool I get this error. I've also tried adding it in Safe Mode. I tried to add it inside Powershell but it would not come up in the list of available drives to pool. Here is the error:

    Can't prepare drives

Close all applications that are accessing the drive, and then try again.

    Code:
The system cannot find the file specified. (0x00000002)

  3. 1 disk in 3 disk Simple Storage Space failed

    Hi,

When you create a simple storage space, it will write data in a stripe across physical disks (in your case, 3 disks) without any extra copies or parity information. This type of storage space will not offer resiliency or data protection. Data corruption
and data loss will occur when one of these drives fails.

Since simple space, or simple layout does not provide any data protection, it is best suited for use on files with backups, or users who are okay with losing or recreating the data if a disk fails.

You may still be able to recover your data using any third-party recovery tools but data integrity is not guaranteed.

We encourage you to check these articles for more information on Storage Spaces:

How to remove a bad drive in Windows 10 storage spaces pool

Could someone list the steps involved in replacing a bad drive from a Windows 10 storage spaces pool? I cannot find any info on the Microsoft support site that is specific to Windows 10. Also, could you list the steps to remove a 'good' drive and replace
it with another drive if the process is different?
