Adding a Drive to Storage Spaces Without Losing Data

Currently I backup my PC to an 8TB disk using Windows 10 backup. The drive is almost full so using Storage Spaces, I would like to add a new 8 TB drive for a total of 16 TB without losing any data byFirst create a new Storage Space on a new blank 8TB driveCopy the current 8 TB drive contents over to the new Storage Space driveAdd the original drive to the storage space. I understand the original drive will be wiped clean. The question is will the contents of the new drive be wiped clean when adding the old drive to the Storage Space?

    :)

Will using Storage Spaces wipe out data already on external drive?

Windows 10 says i am low on space and suggests using Storage Spaces. I have an external hard drive with lots of space that I was going to use, rather than buy another drive. Will moving data to save space from my PC to the drive work if there is already
data on the external, and, will it wipe out the existing data if I can move additional data to the external?

Storage Spaces Disappears After Replacing Boot Drive

Did you check Windows View update history list to see if KB4568831 has already been installed? I would think it has and that is why you got the message you did.

If you have not run the Storage Spaces troubleshooter there are instructions in the other link on do it manually. What is accomplished in either case is that your storage spaces will be set to read only which will allow you to have access to the data on your storage space drive.

The latter manual steps return the Storage Spaces drive to read/write and run optimization, defrag, and integrity routines. If your install is up to date then you should find the cumulative update KB4568831 installed in history. If you have upgraded to 20H2 then the patch discussed elsewhere to address the issue with Storage Spaces showing as RAW is rolled into the upgrade. In either case the manual optimization, defrag, and integrity routines can be run.
