    Adding an account to Windows 10 Mail for the first time


    I have a new Dell laptop and am trying to setup my gmail account in the Windows 10 Mail program. When trying to do the initial Mail setup, the program responds with "We couldn't find your settings. Error code: 0x80070490. I verified in Google mail that Windows has access. I even tried to enable IMAP in gmail and setup an Other Account without success. How can I resolve this problem? I can't seem to gain access to the Windows 10 Mail program as it defaults to "Welcome to Mail... Add account" page.

    I went this route and added passwords for yahoo mail. I might try this method above to get gmail to buck up! *Tongue

    @Bastet, this is probably what you were referring to the whole time.


    YAHOO MAIL FIX
    2FA needs to be enabled which it already was and just follow these steps below.

    1. In yahoo mails account security, click on manage app passwords.

    2. After selecting other app and entering the new app name in the text box

    3. Now, in Windows 10 mail app, add this type of account.

    4. In Windows 10 mail app, enter your details and the password generated by step 2.

    Fully functional mail app again.



    GMAIL FIX

    Now similar steps to setting up Gmail. Here I'll only go through the Gmail steps as Windows Mail App setup is the exact same.

    Yes, once 2-factor authentication is enabled you should then create the app specific password & enter it instead of the account password.

    First, response time is only rapid because when using outlook or other supported email accounts, email notifications come instantly, while with POP3 accounts they still have to be polled on a timer. So, you will probably find that POP3 is just as slow with the mail app as it is with live mail.

    Second, when you add a pop mail account, you typically have to scroll the list of types and it's not obvious and choose the advanced type.
