  1. Adding or removing new, unrelated drives makes boot drive unable to start

I just recently got a second m.2 nvme drive and because of that, 4 of my SATA ports no longer function. So I’ve had to reorganize my SATA drives so the ones I want stay active, but every single time I’ve disconnected and reconnected the drives, my boot drive (the new nvme) didn’t boot. It goes to the bios where the boot order shows that the drive is still registered and active but no matter what I do, it won’t boot.

Every time this has happened (5 or 6 times), I’ve had to reinstall Windows. In the installation, it shows that the drive is there and that it has information on it so I know that Windows is still on there, but it just won’t boot it up. Since I haven’t really installed anything, it’s not that big of a deal now but next month I’m buying a new ssd and I don’t want to have to reinstall Windows all over again and risk losing all my stuff again.

Why is this happening and how do I fix it?

    Maxtor Hard Drive Beep

    Maxtor drive beeps

Have a similiar situation using a DiamondMax Plus 8, 20GB Mfg Date 4/15/03. Drive used as a second system drive. Drive is recognized in boot menu but not in drive list. Drive is always connected. Computer started locking up for several seconds at a time. Chkdsk on drives and couldn't find that drive. Removed drive from bay to make sure connections were ok and heard the beeping. Shutdown and restart and never got to windows screen. Restarted several times then saw drive in boot menu and Windows loaded but Maxtor not in drive menu. When recognized in boot menu, computer will start but beeps and is not found.

Tried kicking it real hard but no improvement. Any suggestions?

Cant boot old drive after adding new drive

I have an HP EliteDesk 800 with a 500G drive on SATA-0. I added a 1TB drive on SATA-1. The 1TB drive came from a Window 8 machine where it was the primary drive. After the new drive was added the machine insists on booting the new 1TB drive. I can boot the old 500G drive using the boot menu but I cannot make it the default (not in the boot order list). I formatted the new drive but it still tries to boot (and now fails). What am I missing? Thanks in advance.

Adding or removing new, unrelated drives makes boot drive unable to start

    Unable to access Drives

    Hi Suneel,

One of the reasons why you're unable to access your hard disk or an external hard drive is that these drives have been corrupted. For us to provide an accurate resolution, kindly elaborate the issue by answering the questions listed below:

    • Are you trying to access external hard drives or just partitioned drives on your PC?
    • Were there any changes on your PC before this happened like software or updates installed?

Just to make sure, kindly verify if your hard drive is reflected in your Device Manager. Kindly follow the steps listed below to check it:

    • Press the Start button.
    • Type Device Manager.
    • Under Disk drives, kindly check if there's an error on the hard drive listed.

We'll be waiting for your reply.
