Windows 10: Adding Routers and Printers to a PC running Windows 10 Pro

If I remember correctly the drivers for my HP LaserJet Pro P1102w installed as soon as I plugged it in to my PC via USB. The setup software is also stored in the printer and can be installed and run from it. Once I told it my WIFI SSID and password, I just unplugged the USB and it was good to go. I've done countless clean installs since then, and changed OS twice and keeps on going.

I cannot however get the printer to accept any IP addresses to connect it my LAN as a network printer. Have placed a query with HP.

The subject of this thread are now all solved.

 

Did you manually enter static IP settings on the Printer? If your Settings are wrong, you can't get it to work over LAN.

Yes I did do that. the printer will not negotiate with the LAN, just as with the routers. the lights on the port card not come on. T seems again that the only way out is for complete reset on the printer.

 

Thanks for the link. I have done that but the IP address line is blank. trying to set it to a static address so far has not helped either. the printer just will not start negotiating over the Ethernet interface.
The manual says that the printer will only use USB [exclusive or] Ethernet . I cannot find anywhere where one can reverse the process. I am pretty sure now that this is the issue. Once the USB connection has been setup, you cannot easily change to the Ethernet option.
