  1. Adding SSD to notebook, how can I move windows installation without reninstalling?

    Hi there.

    So following situation:

I have a Lenovo V510 notebook with a 1Tb HDD installed. The HDD had 4 primary and 1 extended partition - 1 windows bootloader(1Gb) (nonUEFI), 1 with windows installation(~110Gb), 1 as drive D: (~800 Gb) and an exteneded partition(100Gb), that has a Ubuntu installed as a second OS (cause I just like having second OS on a notebook IN CASE).

I decided to install a small m2. SSD (120Gb) and put Windows on it so that it will boot faster, whilst also leaving an HDD intact. The trick is: I don't want to install everything from 0, I just want the windows partition I already have "sort of" cloned to ssd. The problem is: I don't know how to do it.

So my first attempt was to clone windows bootloader and "C:\" partition to ssd, with the Linux dd. That didn't work cause the cloned windows bootloader just kept loading the old "C:\" partition from HDD, not the newly copied one on SSD.

So the second attempt was to install fresh Windows on SSD and then write the old Windows partition over this newly fresh installed one (again with dd, I might add). It worked as a charm in the beginning, cause the Windows installer managed to recognize the original windows bootloader on HDD and just add another boot option (which I can edit with EasyBCD), but after copying the old partition on the ssd one, the newly copied partition won't start - when I boot from it, I get a black screen with mouse cursor (with circle, so a Wait-Cursor) and no ability to Ctrl+Alt+Delete. The led on the notebook indicate that there are a lot of operations on hard drive, but nothing happens even if I wait for an 15 minutes.

Is there a way to nicely transfer the existing windows installation on SSD without reinstalling and whilst keeping the HDD in the bay?
