AdDuplex report says April 2018 Update is running on 78% of Windows 10 PCs

A little while ago, Microsoft in a blog post announced that Windows 10 April 2018 Update has already reached 250 million devices, and interestingly, the April 2018 update has achieved the same mark in less than half the time it took the Fall Creators Update.

The latest data provided by AdDuplex indicates that Windows 10 April 2018 Update (version 1803) is already running on 78% of Windows 10 PCs. It’s worth noting that the report is based on a data collected from around 5,000 Windows Store apps powered by AdDuplex’s SDK. In other words, it represents a very small group of users.

According to the report, Windows 10 April 2018 Update adoption is faster than any previous version of the operating system. On the other hand, Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is on 15% of PCs.

The April 2018 Update is now the top Windows 10 release, followed by the Fall Creators Update (version 1709).

“April 2018 Update continues its speedy march through the PC world and is now on 3/4 of all PCs running Windows 10 according to our data,” AdDuplex noted.

The report also notes that Microsoft’s Surface models have also upgraded to the newest version of Windows 10 operating system. The devices of HP and Dell are leading in terms of the market share.

“The leaders (HP and Dell) have gained a little market share while some others in the top-10 have lost a bit. MSI and Samsung have swapped places at #8 and #9 respectively,” the company said.

Microsoft recently confirmed that Windows 10 April 2018 Update is now available for all compatible devices, and it’s no longer being rolled out to devices in stages. In other words, the adoption of Windows 10 April 2018 Update has significantly accelerated since then.

Microsoft blocks Windows 10 April Update for Intel SSD 600p Series

Microsoft is blocking some Intel SSDs from installing the April 2018 Update after discovering an incompatibility issue that causes performance and stability issues. In short, the problem was explained by Microsoft as: “When attempting to upgrade to Window 10 April 2018 Update select devices with certain Intel SSDs may enter a UEFI screen reboot or crash repeatedly.” Microsoft says that this issue has no workaround and that those that have attempted to update Windows 10 to the Windows 10 April 2018 Update should revert back to Windows 10 Fall Creators Update version 1709.

Unfortunately, the announcement by Microsoft fails to list what specific Intel SSD models are having issues with the OS update. We contacted Intel and discovered that the Intel SSD 600p Series of client drives that was first introduced to the market in 2016 is the most popular drive that is having issues.
