    Adequate work-around for date search limitation in Windows 10 File Explorer?


    Much seems to have been said about the difficulty that emerged, some 2 years ago, in accessing the Search Ribbon on Windows 10 File Explorer – and then to be presented with the limited eight options ‘today’ to ‘last year’ available for date search. For doing just a specific date search, I have found a work-around as detailed in the next two paras. If you know the specific folder, then the Search Ribbon is not required:Open the folder in File Explorer.Left click the small down arrow to the right of the ‘Date’ or ‘Date Modified’ header; the calendar box appears.Select your date

    File Explorer Search Not Working


    I am trying to search in File Explorer (Windows Explorer, My Computer) and it will not find anything. I can copy text from a name in the list and paste it in the search box and it still finds nothing. I have looked at the suggestions that have been posted and nothing I find that is relative to this works. Anyone have any suggestions? I am running Win 10 Pro on an I3 coustom desktop computer.

    Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

    Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    File Explorer Search Date Limited

    Hi, could you advise what your major build was before you updated to 2004 please? (e.g.1903, 1909..)

    If you have file explorer open at an appropriate (indexed) folder and copy and paste this
    ext: pdf datecreated:1/1/19 .. 30/7/20
    into the search box, what do you see?
    (Note, date format above is for the UK, you may need to amend that)
    datemodified
    is also valid.

    Could you post a screenshot or screenshots illustrating this, thus?

    You may be aware that MS started making changes to f.explorer search in 1909, and continued that in 2004.
