  1. Adjust taskbar hover-over bubbles to show only vertical list of file names

I have a full taskbar. I've chosen to combine the taskbar icons when the taskbar is full. When I hover over one of the icons say Word, I see a horizontal arrangement of say three abutted thumbnails, one per Word document. The filenames show above the thumbnails in truncated form. The thumbnails are not useful to me. It's a Word document, after all. What would be far more useful is a vertical list of the Word filenames -- less truncated, since each filename can occupy the full width of space that was previously taken up by the horizontal arrangement of abutted thumbnails. Is there a way

Jump list not showing full filename if pointer is hovering long files?

For some reason, this only applies to Taskbar jump lists, but you need to 'Pin' the item to the list first.
Everywhere else it works as expected.

How to make multiple files show vertically in the taskbar

    Hey everyone,

I just got a new work computer and went from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Microsoft Excel used to automatically show multiple files in a vertical list when hovering over the icon in the taskbar. With the new computer, they are all shown with thumbnails horizontally
which is terribly inconvenient. I've searched through the settings myself and have done some digging on multiple forums but am having trouble finding an answer. The only thing I found that looked promising appeared to need administrative access. This:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

Click on Advanced key. On menu, click Edit > New > DWORD (32 bit) Value

This is a picture of what I am stuck with now:

I want them back in the vertical list with no thumbnail and the whole file name shown.

If anybody could show me how to do this (ideally without administrative access) that would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you,

    Cody

Adjust taskbar hover-over bubbles to show only vertical list of file names

Excel - File open - hover over files - file names do not show up

    Office 365 / Windows 10 x64

Excel: File > Open shows a list of filenames.
Due to the limited space, long file names are cut off, regretfully so.
(There is a lot of unused empty space on the right of the File - Open dialog)

Problem: in case long file names with almost identical names it sometimes is difficult to select the one: the differences between these files are displayed. See attachment. One file is 02-2021 the other 02-2020, or vice versa?

Now, I suppose..., when hovering over the files, a pop-up would show up displaying the full file name(?)
Repeat: suppose, as with me it never did.

However, if my assumption is correct and indeed a pop-up should show up, then I wonder what could prevent this from happening.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!
