Windows 10: Admin control

    I have a Lenovo T490 Thinkpad. I purchase Office 365 Buisness Premium when I purchased the laptop in Nov 2019 from Best Buy. I also had their Geek Squad load and set it up for me at the time of purchase. I am not able to make some changes in most Windows applications or delete files. I get messages that says I need to have administrator rights or that it is controlled by my admin. What do I need to change so it recognizes me as the laptop owner and administrator?

    You can reset the Admin Password using Windows XP repair; See Here for step by step.

    Hi Erina,

    What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

    I would suggest you to go to control panel and check your user account status. Right click on the start button and select control panel in the menu. In the control panel, click on the 'view by' option in the top right and select 'large icons'. Now, click
    on 'User accounts' and check if your account is listed as Administrator. If it is not displayed as Admin account, click on the option 'Change user account type' and select 'Administrator' and apply changes. Try these steps and let us know the results. If you
    have already tried, please let us know what all troubleshooting steps you have tried so far, so that we can provided you suggestion accordingly.

    Hi,

    We are sorry that the issue still persists.

    I suggest you to check if the issue persists in the Built-in Administrator account
    (hidden administrator account). To enable the account, follow the steps below:

    • Right Click on Start and select “Command Prompt (Admin)”.
    • Accept the UAC prompt if required.
    • Type “net user administrator /active:yes” (without quotes).

    Once you have enabled the account, you will see it listed in the user accounts control panel applet. Login to the account and check for status.

    To disable the built-in Administrator account, follow the steps provided above and in step 3 type the command line provided below:

    “net user administrator /active:yes” (without quotes).

    Keep us posted on the status for further assistance.
