  1. Administrator control

How can I get full control of my computer under Windows 10? Even though I select "run as administrator", I get the message that I don't have appropriate permissions to access the item. I want to change to the Administrator account but do not know how.

    :)

Settings can't be opened using the built-in administrator account

    Hello,
Unfortunately I have the same issue as Dabz from upgrading win7 to win10.
I've tried opening settings using all the suggested methods and it will not load using my account with Administrator access nor the built-in Administrator profile. I also tried other methods not listed such as using Run. Control panel is just a stepping stone to add users in Settings.
I'm also having explorer.exe issues, which I believe is preventing Settings from loading.
Using cmd (Admin) I successfully created a new user profile [and granted admin access also using cmd (Admin)], however win10 will not allow this account to log on. win10 does not list this new user within control panel but it does in the start menu. win10 will not allow to log in or switch to the new account via the start menu either.
I can access settings in Safe Mode but this will not allow me to create a new account.
Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We understand your concern of not getting the administrator control after Windows update. In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below.

    • Do you receive a pop up that says ‘you have been logged into a temporary account’?
    • What is the recent update that installed on the PC (KB number)?
    • Did you logged in to an Administrator account?
    • What is the Windows 10 version and Build installed? (Type
      winver in Windows search/Run command)
    • Are you not able to see the desktop shortcuts, after the update?

However, we would suggest you to try changing the registry settings for the user profile. Please follow the steps mentioned below to change the registry settings,
if the computer is booting to a temp profile.

    1. Open Start Menu and type CMD, and then right click and select as
      Run as administrator.
    2. Now type the command: wmic useraccount where name='USERNAME' get sid. Where
USERNAME is the user name of the account, which you were using previously.
    3. Copy the SID and save it a notepad file.

Now follow the below steps to fix the registry for temporary profile.

    Note:
Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection,
back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

    Refer the article on
How to back up and restore the registry in Windows
    .

    • Press Windows key + R. This will open Run. Alternatively, you can go to Start and search for
      Run.
    • In Run dialog box, type regedit and hit enter.
    • Now navigate to the location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList.
    • Now search for the SID, which you have saved in the notepad file.
    • Note: Select the registry key, which does not ends with
      .bak.
    • On the right hand pane search for ProfileImagePath.
    • Now right click on it and select Modify.
    • Under Value Data put the value: C:\Users\<USERNAME>, Where
USERNAME is the user name of the account, which you were using previously.
    • Click on OK.
    • Now right click on the SID registry key ending with
      .bak
    • Right click on it and select Delete.
    • Restart the PC.

    We await your response.

    Administrator control

Fan control for 4870X2 broken in 1.17

Fixed fan controls yes. Annoying profiles yes. Buggy code yes.

I'd rather just set it and forget it as the feature list of RBE suggested it was capable of doing.
