I mistakenly deleted all the administrator accounts in my windows 10 PC. Now I cannot even access the C: drive and every time I try to run a program it keeps telling me windows could not be locate the file path. I have tried resetting but, it keeps telling me windows experienced and error in resetting this device. I can't set any thing as administrator anymore and I am not even asked questions about allowing an app to run as administrator anymore. I can't even run my command prompt as administrator and everything I do always comes back with either error or access denied or windows can locat

    access denial

    Hello,

    Thank you for your response.

    1. I am not trying to change a file on the C drive. I am working on the D drive with a disc/disk. When I click on properties there is not an option for Security. The options are General, Hardware, Sharing, Customize, and Recording. When I click properties on
a folder within the D drive I am given the options of General, Sharing, and Customize. The general attributes are designated as Read only. When I uncheck the read only option, I am prompted with a pop-up that indicated Access Denied - You will need to provide
administrator permission to change these attributes. I click continue as I am an administrator within this computer. A new pop-up window opens labelled as Error Applying Attributes with a message : An error occurred applying attributes to the file D:.*/*.JPG.
Access is denied. The *.* is indicative of each and every file as it states this message for each file if I click ignore.

    2. Again, there is not an option for Security so I am unable to proceed with these instructions.

    3. I entered what you suggested in the command prompt.

    The response was :

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

There is no change in the D drive access denial.

When I open security properties within the C drive there are the following group or user names:

    Authenticated Users

    SYSTEM

    Administrators (family-computer\Administrators)

    Users (family-computer\Users)

I do not understand who or what Authenticated Users or SYSTEM are referring to. There are two administrators and two normal users on this computer.

The Authenticated Users field has only a Special Permissions checked in ALLOW.

SYSTEM has ALLOW checked on all fields except Special Permission.

Administrators has an ALLOW checked on all fields except Special Permissions.

I am unable to remove the Special Permissions Allow for the Authenticated Users. Do you suggest I try removing this Group or User name? Is this safe to do or will I do damage?

Lost access rights to C drive in Windows 10, even from administrator account!

Thanks for your prompt response and for the clarifications, Frederik.

    Regarding your questions:

    • Which folders are affected?
      • I cannot access C: drive at all. I can only use other disks. That's the main issue; I'd like to recover access, be able to run those programs that need files in C:, etc.
    • The correct command would be takeown /f C:\ /r. You must run it under elevated privileges.
      • Thanks, but I've run the command using both my account (which is an administrator account) and the hidden Administrator account, in Safe Mode, and in all cases I've got an "access denied" message. The /r is just for
recursivity, but it didn't work either.
    • In your case I am happy to report that your files are safe.
      • Thanks. I know they are safe, but my concern is which solution can give me access to C: drive again, without having to format C: and lose my files. That's what I meant.
So, which would be your recommended next step for me try and recover the C: drive access.

    Thanks!

    Folder Access Denial

Even a Administrator, I am denied access to various folders.

I have tried going round and round to reset, set, change settings in security tab and other places. Is there a step-by-step instruction sheet on how to set a folder's access so that anyone, or at least the administrator can access it. My current problem
involves the "Backup" folder created by a system recover operation, containing all of my data from the system hard drive. I am told I can't access this folder, or make any changes in who can access it.
