Windows 10: Adobe Acrobat Reader (AAR) prevented as Default PDF file Opener

I had Microsoft Edge as default reader on my Win 10 HP laptop and am NOT able to choose AAR as the default even after resetting the Edge app and removing it from the default position. I can choose AAR for PDFxml files but NOT straight PDF files. Others have had the same problem and I do not understand why it is not a simple fix for MS for such a common and ubiquitous app default??

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Not Letting Other PDF Viewers to Open PDF File


A friend of mine called me asking for help converting an important document from a PDF to a DOC. I go to a website to convert the PDF and when I open it it gives me this...

. I then go to open the PDF in Edge and Firefox (they are the only other PDF viewers I have other than Adobe) and they give me these messages...



. But when I open it in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, it shows the document normally. It only opens in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. I don't know what was done to the file before it was given to me and I have tried printing it to a PDF and opening it but it gives me the same error. Does anyone have any ideas?

 

I want Adobe Acrobat Standard X to be my default not Reader

Hello there. Thank you for trying to help me figure setting Acrobat Standard X as the default for pdf's instead of Adobe Reader.

I followed your steps and unfortunately it does not change the default to open with Acrobat Standard X; it still opens it in reader. I can right click on each individual pdf and make it open with Acrobat Standard X but that is very time consuming and not
what I used to have to do. Any other suggestions please?
