    . But when I open it in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, it shows the document normally. It only opens in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. I don't know what was done to the file before it was given to me and I have tried printing it to a PDF and opening it but it gives me the same error. Does anyone have any ideas?

    pdf viewing disappeared in Windows 10 file explorer preview pane

    This worked for me, but I also had to make Adobe PDF Reader DC the default PDF viewer. Without doing that, even though it was installed, the icon images in Explorer on the PDF files all referred to Edge. Switch to Adobe as the default PDF viewer, after
    enabling the thumbnails as shown here, resulted in the preview thumbnails immediately filling in.
