Windows 10: Adobe Digital Editions has not come up onscreen since my Windows 10 updates on 18 Feb 20.

I've had this HP laptop for years. Bought it with Windows 7 worked fine; and took the free upgrade to Windows 10 everything got slow, but programs, especially Adobe Digital Editions have always worked. I don't have permanent wi-fi; I mostly read on Adobe Digital Editions or watch DVD's. The library has free wi-fi and I update there. On 18 Feb the machine was doing that. I downloaded some books from Project Gutenberg and got some loans from the library's E catalog. All downloaded to Adobe Digital Editions without problems. After I got home the machine wanted a restart to complete installing updates. Adobe has not come up since. I've done a reset: no change; and a "fresh start" fresh install of Windows 10 and an uninstall of the other programs. I download new stuff from Adobe, but the program doesn't go past a tiny flash page.

1. Do you get any error message when you try to download the Adobe Digital Edition?
   
2. Which version of Adobe Digital edition are you trying to download?
   

As per Adobe support, it is compatible with Windows 7. You can try installing it in compatibility mode.

For installing it in compatibility mode, you may follow this step:

• Right click on setup file and click on Properties.
  
• Under compatibility tab, check the option “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” and select Windows 7.
  
• Click on Apply and OK.
  

You may download the
Adobe Digital Edition 4.5.9 version and check if it is works.

I understand how it can be, we will look into this for you. Please follow the below mentioned methods and check if that helps.



Method 1:



I suggest you to update the Adobe Digital Edition on your computer and check if that helps. Please refer the article
Adobe Digital Editions to install the update.



If the issue persists, please follow method 2.



Method 2:



I also suggest to uninstall the particular update from settings and check if that makes any difference.

• Press Windows logo + I, to open
  Settings.
  
• Click on Update & Security.
  
• Select Windows updates.
  
• Click on View update history.
  
• Click on Uninstall updates and uninstall the update that is causing the issue and check if that helps.

Can't Open Adobe Digital Editions with Windows 10

Uninstall previous versions of Adobe Digital Editions for Windows

You must have administrator privileges to complete these steps

• 
  
  Do one of the following, depending on your version of Windows:
  
  • (Windows 7) Choose Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs And Features.
  • (Windows Vista) Choose Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs And Features.
  • (Windows XP) Choose Start > Control Panel, and double-click Add Or Remove Programs.

• 
  
  Select Adobe Digital Editions, and then click the option to remove or uninstall the program.
  
• 
  
  Restart your computer and reinstall Adobe Digital Editions.
  

Manually install Adobe Digital Editions for Windows

• 
  
  Download the installer for Windows by clicking ADE_4_0_Installer.zip as shown below. Then, extract the .zip file.
  
  
  
  ADE_4.0_Installer.zip
  
  Note:
  
  Installer downloads to your computer's downloads folder by default.
  
• 
  
  Double-click the ADE_4.0_Installer.exe file on your desktop to start the installation.
  
• 
  
  When a message appears asking you to trust the publisher, click Run again. You can safely download the Adobe Digital Editions installer from Adobe.

  Follow the onscreen instructions.
  

By the way...Hotmail is being phased out you might want to install Windows Live Mail (part of Windows Essentials) from

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/essentials

PS: If it still won't work (A D E) then download the free Nook app from the Microsoft Store and/or the Adobe Reader

from Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions personally I would uncheck the Google Chrome Spyware Installers that hitch a ride with it but please yourself on that.
