Windows 10: Adobe files display with Chrome icon

I've had to reinstall Windows 11 and for some reason my Adobe Acrobat files all now have the Chrome my chosen browswer icon, even though I don't think they're opening in Chrome. I've looked and looked and can't find a way to change the pdf icon on these files, either individually or universally. I just want my pdf files to have traditional pdf icon -- can someone help?

Desktop chrome shortcut icons turned into blank papers!!!

It's possible that the antivirus app you installed, RAV endpoint protection, caused the issue with your Chrome shortcut icons turning into blank papers. Antivirus apps can sometimes interfere with the functioning of other programs, including changing the appearance of icons.

To resolve this issue, you can try the following steps:

1. Restart your computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix minor issues with icons.
   
2. Rebuild the icon cache: The icon cache is a database that stores the icons for all the files and programs on your computer. If the cache becomes corrupted, it can cause issues with icons. To rebuild the icon cache, follow these steps:
   
   • Open File Explorer and navigate to the following folder: C:\Users[Your Username]\AppData\Local
     
   • Locate the "IconCache.db" file and delete it (you may need to enable the option to show hidden files and folders in File Explorer settings).
     
   • Restart your computer.
     
3. Reset Chrome shortcuts: If the issue persists only with Chrome shortcuts, you can try resetting them by following these steps:
   
   • Right-click on the blank paper icon and select "Properties."
     
   • In the Properties window, click on the "Shortcut" tab.
     
   • Click on the "Change Icon" button.
     
   • In the "Change Icon" window, click on the "Restore Defaults" button.
     
   • Click "OK" to save the changes.
     

Please note that these steps are general suggestions, and it's always a good idea to back up your important files before making any changes to your system.

Adobe reader pdf file keeps changing default as chrome HTML file after windows restarted

Try these methods one by one

New computer, installed chrome browser. now all my stored pdf are chrome HTML docs! how to correct? - Google Chrome Community

Can you try this:

1. Uninstall Chrome
   
2. Uninstall Adobe PDF Reader
   
3. Install Adobe PDF Reader
   
4. Try open random PDF with Adobe PDF Reader
   
5. Install Chrome
   

(Do this in order as above).

Try this

On Windows 10: Click on MS icon on left corner of the task bar (4 rectangles or windows sign)2. Right click > Control panel > Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Associations3. Sort by Description (Other available options are Name, Current Default)4. You will notice that the (Adobe Acrobat Document) PDF files have been associated with Chrome html or other similar file types like firefox etc

Adobe Icon

The icon now showing on all my PDF's is now a white rectangle outlined in red with the Adobe symbol in red in the middle and the letters PDF below.

I have tried changing the icon via the shortcut under Adobe properties. The icon to select looks like what I want...box outlined in red, black background, and the adobe symbol in white, without the "PDF" below it.

How can I get the icon to be what I want it to be, what shows in the list. By the way, it is the only icon which shows in the list, coming from the file
