I want to get a 4 or 5tb drive, and I dont know if the MSI 7596 motherboard supports it?
Some drives are just plain 4K and from little I read, wont work on older 512 motherboards.?
I know last 3TB HGST drive I bought was specifically able to work with 512e sector sizes even though being a 4K drive. How do you know a large drive has the 512e capability if it does not say so?

For example, I see no mention of the emulation here?

Here it talks more about this.

MS Says AF 512e HDD's Are Not Supported in Win10?

According to Microsoft Knowledge Bulletin at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2510009
Advanced Format 512e (512b emulation layer on top of 4k sector size) HDD's are not supported in Win10. How is that possible. It is the most common format for current generation large capacity drives. The only alternatives are 512n (512b logical and physical), which is legacy old and doesn't seem to go above about 4TB's, and 4Kn (4k logical and physical) which is seen mostly as an option on enterprise drives and still pretty uncommon. Any ideas?

I recently converted a Legacy multi-boot drive to EFI multi-boot with advanced 4K sector format, Shouldn't t bytes per sector be 4096 in Windows 10 and 8.1?

I looked at the forums and I don't know which to choose - I am not an IT person and my technical knowledge is very limited. The question is whether or not Windows is correctly installed and whether or not the native 4k sector is available in Windows 8.1
and 10. Apparently Windows 8.1 and 10 is still operating on 512 sectors after my instalation.

    (Posted later)

I found my answer. Apparently my Advanced Format HDD was not a 4Kn (native) hard drive, but rather what is referred to as a 512e. On this type of hard drive, data is stored in 4K sectors but internal software transfers 512 bit sectors to Windows.
