Windows 10: Advanced optimus.

Hi I have a new gaming laptop. With advanced optimus. Using the laptop on its own I can turn AO off, but as soon as connect it to a external monitor it won't let me swith it off, it keeps me connected to cpu cpu graphics, I've tried changing through nvidia controle panel but it just doesn't give me the option. Anyone got any ideas, every YouTube video I've watched tells me to do through nvidia controle panel. But obviously it's not letting me. ???

LG Optimus 7 not being detected by my computer

Unfortunately the LG Mobile Support Tool doesn't seem to help either. I can't find the model number in the list (I think E900 corresponds to the Optimus 7).

Sure, its Advanced Optimus so plain old Optimus isn't available

But this user has a much older GPU anyway so yeah, it doesn't even compute.

 

Is it possible to have nVIDIA Optimus in a desktop?

A quick check online suggests that an RTX 2060 consumes about 10W at idle.

I'm not sure, but I think Optimus requires BIOS level support. I doubt that's common in desktop mainboards.

I speak only for myself, but I can't see it as worthwhile, even if it's practical. I'd avoid even if real power savings were available, just because it seems to be something of a PITA as regards driver support.
