  1. Advise on disabling services

As previously posted, just set the ones you think need to be disabled to manual and if they are needed they will start. I at the moment have 128 Processes running and not too much info on what they are.

Setting a service to Manual is not a safe alternative to disabling it. This is only safe for services that by default are set to Manual start. A Manual start service can be started by the system or an application if it is needed. But that is by no means a guarantee it will happen. In many cases when an application fails because of a non running service the application doesn't know the cause.

  3. Well then Nigel seems to disagree and so do I. If Windows does not start it then logic says that it is not needed.*Smile

That all being said it is up to the user to decide what to do with their system.

    Advise on disabling services

    I would start with these:
Code: ::Network Location Awareness SC Config NlaSvc Start=Disabled SC Stop NlaSvc :Advise on disabling services :peer Name Resolution Protocol SC Config PNRPsvc Start=Disabled SC Stop PNRPsvc :Advise on disabling services :peer Networking Identity Manager SC Config p2pimsvc Start=Disabled SC Stop p2pimsvc ::Remote Procedure Call Endpoint Mapper ::SC Config RpcEptMapper Start=Disabled ::SC Stop RpcEptMapper ::Server SC Config LanmanServer Start=Disabled SC Stop LanmanServer ::SSDP Discovery SC Config SSDPSRV Start=Disabled SC Stop SSDPSRV ::Workstation SC Config LanmanWorkstation Start=Disabled SC Stop LanmanWorkstation[/quote] With these enabled, disable one at a time until failure with WiFi or VPN.

Personally, Network Location Awareness should stay Automatic. (And the last one to be disabled?)

  5. The problem as I see it is simple but yet very complicated.

    Example:

One disables Microsoft "A" service because they don't use it or need it.
The problem is disabling "A" service effects B, C, D and maybe more services.
Microsoft does not publish what works with what. So when disabling 1 thing you don't need can effect several things you do need or want.
The simple part is we don't know what works with what, that is why it has been recommended by several to just leave Microsoft Services alone.

Now, if it's your computer you can turn off what ever you want. We only give recommendation and are thoughts.
Their is a cure if one bonks their computer. It's called a "Clean Install".
I been there done that. Thank you Black Viper.

  6. Parameters are variable, not the same for each version, screenshot is not 16299.

Go see the gamer's Hand of God, select your version, adjust yourself and apply major corrections.

The rest is to gain speed, some sort of privacy and stability.

    [Spam deleted]
    Edit:
In an ideal world, Services setup of a new version must be done after a clean install.

Thanks for advise, well you're right, although if disabling service A has negative effect on service B, it's message boxed at the time of disabling service A, but, yes you're right, maybe MS hide something else inside service A or B and no one knows what's going on...
I have removed a lot of the list and updated my original post with the new code though.
If anyone see something there that MUST NOT be disabled, I will thank him for his advise *Smile

    Advise on disabling services

I agree that there is a chance that a "manual" service will not start quickly enough or maybe at all and call a failure, But and it is an Important "but" it is far more likely to start than a disabled service. I only suggest the option I do as it's safer than the alternative from a system point of view - I would always recommend to leave all services at defaults, as I do in the main body of my post *Smile

  9. MS recommends to disable services for various reasons, sometimes as a workaround, until a fix is found (update released), it also works as a prevention obviously, just disabling lanman services prevents tons of malware from working.

I do not see anything, that would affect network, but as for VPN, that depends, what are its requirements.
AllJoyn Router Service might be needed, also Performance Logs & Alerts, which starts on-demand by default.

For the record, I am running these at the moment. I have DHCP/nsi running, because Windows Firewall needs them.

    @omidsolo

Did you sort out which Service caused the difficulties with WiFi and VPN? Just curious which was the culprit.

  11. Remains too aggressive (79) and at your own risk.

Defender's is not disabled, how do you get related patches? How would you know that you run the latest engine?

Are you getting Tuesday's patch(s) from the MS catalogue? All WU links are dead and driver's list is empty.

In this field, the stability barrier has been set since 3 decades by our West Coast cousin, you overwrite this reference (safe or tweak): No Integrity Violations.

    We NEVER touch the following:

    -Workstation*
    -Work folder (not in 16299.15)
    -WU*
    -Windows search
    -Windows Modules Installer
    -Windows Image Acquisition WIA
    -Windows Bio.*
    -Update Orchestrator Service*
    -Superfectch
    -SSDP
    -Software Protection
    -Server*
    -Secondary Logon*
    -Problem Reports and Solutions...
    -Performance Logs & Alerts
    -Peer ( x3)
    -Optimize Drive
    -Home Group (x2)*
    -Delivery Optimization

In this advanced user area, we are not demolishing Windows architecture, we're maximizing overhaul rendering.

That's what stability is all about.

Sorry I forgot to say that my WIFI/VPN problem solved and J found and removed required services from being disabled.
I don't remember their names but my original post is updated with services that CAN be disabled on my PC and until now I didn't see a problem yet.
So I just need to know that according to my updated list in original post are there anything that I must not disable yet?
If something I mentioned there to be disabled and should not be, please let me know to remove it from list and enable it.
    Cheers *Smile
