I get a warning from Windows Defender that this bit of malware is present in my Vivaldi cache each time I open a new window in Vivaldi. My security software scans don't find it. A search of the the hard drive with File Explorer doesn't find it. I've visited NO odd sites that might have installed it. The file Defender says it is in doesn't exist in the location Defender says it is in. file: C:\Users\Gene\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\Cache\f_0003ff

It has also said it was in other cache files similar to that one. This is the only browser that triggers the alert. There have been no changes to my system, I'm running Win 10 Pro 64 bit, 1809. I've emptied the cache using CCleaner Pro, still this warning pops up. I've read about false positives but I don't know if that's what I'm dealing with. I have MalwareBytes Pro on this machine and it does not find it. I've run their tool and submitted the issue to them as well.

So, here I'm looking for anyone who's run into this. I've seen it talked about in the Vivaldi forum and essentially they determined it was NOT Vivaldi but something in Windows Defender. This began happening ONLY yesterday after installing the August updates. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. :^) gene

  2. Adware Troubles

You can do it. Follow the steps here.

Remove Gen:Variant.Adware virus (Easy Removal Guide)

If it is not listed in the Control Panel, or it can't be removed there, move on to step 2. You might be able to skip the step with HitmanPro. (30 day free trial if needed)

    Recommendations for Adware killer?

I currently have been using Adaware by lavasoft as an adware scanner, actually have been for a long time.(Free version). Over the last year however that program has been getting more and more bloated, does anyone have any suggestions for something better?
