Windows 10: AdwCleaner Results - Chrome

[C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Web data] [Search Provider] Deleted: aol.com [-]

[C:\Users\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Web data] [Search Provider] Deleted: ask.com


AdwCleaner discovered the above in Chrome. Second time, same finding last week, previously deleted.

Not having redirects, etc or other symptoms. Is this a concern ? Thoughts ?

Chrome Cleanup didn't find anything and now wants to clear all cache/settings, unpin all tabs, remove all extensions... ie. delete everything.

AdwCleaner didn't work, either.

The very best place to pose this type of question would have been to start your own topic at https://forums.malwarebytes.com/foru...leaner/?do=add.

However, Malwarebytes' AdwCleaner has been continuously flagging & deleting those individual findings since at least last year, if not earlier. Those findings do not carry the weight of much more serious and damaging malware.

Nearly all Malwarebytes' AdwCleaner users appreciate those findings and removals as they may not want those particular search provider choices made available for themselves or other users of that computer. Those search provider choices are always your call.

But I do not understand how Ask.com and AOL search was found in the Chrome Browser? Downloads ? However, when I download, I am very careful to watch for addons. And as stated it happened 2 weeks in a row. First time was deleted.

 

They are probably cookies(from 3rd parties) that get set, or picked up) when you visit a site, because that site might use one of those search engines for in site searches or page to page maneuvering.

But since I clean the browser with CCleaner (and also the Chrome function), shouldn't they be deleted ?

 

If you, like I do, have Chrome set to sync everything, they could be coming back the next time you open it. Or they come back the next time you visit the site that sets them.

In any case, I get the AOL one(twice actually) if I run AdwCleaner a couple days later after cleaning them out, too.
