Windows 10: Affordable 4TB SSD's on the way soon

While 500 USD isn't possibly truly "Affordable" for a lot of people it does show that high capacity SSD's are within the price reach of a lot of people now.

Mushkin shows off a 4TB SSD with estimated price of US$500 - Storage - News - HEXUS.net

These should become considerably cheaper soon -- looking forward to the day when someone will ask "What's a Hard Disk" rather like the bemusement on some people's faces when you mention Floppy disks. !!!

Even in a NAS server these would be useful as you could store the whole thing in a box about the size of your router / cable box with ZERO or very small heat, so no fans etc and a lot less power consumption.

4 X 4 of these would make a very nice 16TB NAS server. Won't be too long now before this is realistically feasible without needing a lottery win or breaking the bank.

My only problem with the reliability reports of these sorts of things is that they use all sorts of things that the user can't really understand properly.

A CLEAR indicator like say a MTBF (Mean time before failure) would be far more useful than nr of IOPS or whatever.
A failure would be defined where the drive became unusable and data couldn't be recovered. Correctable I/O errors should send warnings so the drive could be replaced in a timely manner.

My experience so far with Consumer grade SSD's has been excellent -- I wouldn't currently have any problems replacing my HDD's with SSD's if the cost came down a bit.

Remember though you will still need BACKUP. !!! Begins to get a little bit difficult these days once you start messing around with 12 TB of data or more (multi-media etc). Seems you will need TWO complete machines !!!!!

Onedrive keeps spamming "I'm almost full, give money"

Do you need Onedrive?

I do not use it as I have SSD's that are large enough and have an external 4TB drive.

You keep paying for Onedrive and it will cost you more.

 

Searching the Recycle bin takes forever.

When I open the Recycle bin after a mistake to retrieve a file, it takes an extreme amount of time to open.

I am using a 16GB memory, 64 bit OS with a 4TB drive a 256 SSD C drive and a 2TB second drive ("F:").

I would like to open only the recycle bin on the 4TB drive, but that seems out of bounds.

What am I doing wrong, can the speed be increased.
