Windows 10: After 1803 Update .AVI file ONLY Plays Audio

Discus and support After 1803 Update .AVI file ONLY Plays Audio in Windows 10 Installation and Upgrade to solve the problem; I could play .avi files before the Windows 10 1803 Update.     I could play .avi files before the Windows 10 1803 Update. Now .avi files only play audio but not video. Please help.

    Play an incomplete avi file?

    divfix might be able to help, if not, and VLC and the other suggestions don't work it might just be impossible for your files. Are you sure they're avi files for example, check them out with g-spot. Sometimes funny people rename rar files to avi and such.

    From the above description, I understand the audio plays fine but cannot view the video when playing
    .avi files after upgrading to Windows 10.



    Before assisting further, I would like to ask you few questions:

    • Which video application are you using to play videos on the PC?
    • Does the issue persists only when playing .avi files?


    You may be facing the above issue due to the default player set which does not support
    .avi files on your PC. Setting the right applications to open certain file types plays an important role in launching the same without any performance issue. Sometimes the file may fail to launch using the default set application due to the
    corrupted or missing application file on the PC.



    Follow the steps below to set default application to .avi file and check if the issue is resolved.




    • Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type
      Default programs and select the top most search result.

    • Scroll the page down and click on Choose default apps by file type from the window.

    • Locate .avi file format, click on the program which is set to open the file type, select an application to make as default from
      Choose an App window.

    • Close the window and check if the changes are effective.
